Stephen J. Socolof

Steve loves focusing his investment activity on the local Mid-Atlantic region.  He looks for deals in cleantech and enterprise, including hardware and software across cloud/data center, IoT, and mobility.  He is currently a director of SunRay Scientific and board observer for Adrich, Kintra Fibers, and Regenosine.  He was on the board of Data Inventions (sold to ECi Software Solutions), Stratis IoT (sold to RealPage), and Vydia (sold to Gamma).  Steve is currently on the board of the National Venture Capital Association.

Steve started his career in venture capital running a venture incubator for Bell Labs at Lucent Technologies from 1996 – 2001.  During that period, his team created 35 startup companies based on technology developed within Bell Labs.  In 2001, Steve and his team left Lucent to launch an independent venture capital firm called New Venture Partners to focus on investing in corporate spinouts.  In those days, he was a director of Alverix (sold to BD), Everspin Technologies (IPO); Neohapsis (sold to Cisco), Gainspan (sold to Telit Communications), Silicon Hive (sold to Intel); Sychip (sold to Murata); and an observer of Flarion Technologies (sold to Qualcomm).

Steve received an M.B.A. degree from The Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College.  He received a B.A. degree in economics and a B.S. degree in mathematical sciences from Stanford University.
